Time for a new mythos!

Dear Ones,

I was at a loss this evening for a communion theme. Through a short detour via FB, I learned that today (March 26) is the birthday of Joseph Campbell, perhaps the most influential and well-researched mythologist of all times. He would be 121 years old today.

A mythologist who induced my inner search for meaning over a decade ago; a search that still goes on.

As we further move into the Aquarian age, humanity may need to recreate itself through the power of myth and sacred stories that go well beyond the borders of any state—stories of mythical proportions, such as Prometheus stealing the fire from the Olympian gods and giving it to humanity in the form of technology, knowledge and, more generally, civilization.

Is it time for a new mythos?

Time for a modern Prometheus ushering us into a new civilization.

What are we here to transcend?

Dear Ones,

How are you?

My interest got piqued last weekend when I read the passage below in Whatever Happened to the New Age? by Master Djwhal Khul.

Knowing the theme of transcendence has been titillating me for a long time.

Especially, what does it mean to be “engaged in an effort to make the world transparent to the soul-driven process of transcendence?”

I am not sure I fully understand what this means, perhaps because this process runs at a subterranean level which is not obvious to many. Yet we can trust our soul to orchestrate what is timely and appropriate to further our evolutionary journey. An invisible, quiet director!

That being said, what are we here to transcend, really?

Our limitations, it seems, a few false beliefs, perhaps some difficult episodes in our childhood, but these do not get to the core of what transcendence is about.

Any “transcending thoughts,” dear Ones?

“Famous mythologist, lecturer and author Joseph Campbell, whom many consider the foremost authority in comparative world mythology, taught that the whole of humanity is collectively, if unwittingly, engaged in an effort to make the world transparent to the soul-driven process of, and longing for, transcendence.

Indeed, somewhere beneath the more obvious phenomenal world, with its many compelling appearances, is an eternal, creative wellspring that is perpetually streaming its energies into the experiential realm of humans, i.e., the world of time, struggle, moments of unknowing and, most importantly, the morphic field in which life and death take place. This rich flow of creative energy calls individuals to search for greater depth in the quest to ascertain life’s meaning as well as one’s own purpose. Further, its presence is an invitation for individuals to transcend the limitations inherent in the phenomenal realm. Often this process takes the form of an inner quest, or personal journey, and may mandate one or more archetypal initiations such as those related in the world’s great myths.”

The sesame is opening

Dear Ones,

We completed a week that I found particularly eventful in the challenging context—global as well as personal—Earth inhabitants are experiencing.

I realize that most of what I will be sharing is highly personal and constitutes my “own pebbles” on the path, yet this made me understand, when I put these few pieces together, that something of sheer magnitude is truly ‘pregnating!’

Last weekend, my last student of French—a teacher of French in a high school in Virginia—announced that he would be sitting for the French praxis exam. In order to become a certified teacher, a student needs to pass the praxis before being eligible for further courses.

Last November, I received a message from Archangel Michael via a friend of mine in Spain. He clearly admonished me to ‘let go of any distractions and follow my mission.’

The only distraction I could think of was my teaching of French, in the evening and on the weekend. By Christmas time, I had done a bit of cleaning yet still had two students at the beginning of the year. One mystically disappeared three weeks ago after a brief exchange with his mother. I know there was something irrational or unexplainable in her decision after she praised me for being “such an amazing coach.”

When this last student succeeds in his French praxis exam, I will be out of a job!

On Thursday and Friday, I returned to the elementary school where I worked last year as a literacy tutor. I was let go at the end of the school year and, honestly, I didn’t see it coming. I thought the school’s decision was due to a budget cut yet I realized on Thursday that someone had replaced me. Obviously, my ‘performance’ wasn’t up to par, for whatever reason.

What dawned on me on Friday, as I taught for another second-grade teacher, is that I was let go on the same day the year prior for another substitute job in a middle school when I wasn’t performing according to school standards; perhaps giving too many answers to students during their earth science tests. And screwing up the testing!

That same day, in 2023 and 2024, was May 31st. I was let go in similar circumstances; not being told anything and assuming that I would come back. This is a mirroring coincidence that is just too beautiful to pass by.

Finally, on Friday evening, I received news that I wasn’t selected for the ‘Teach Forward’ program our school district had offered to one hundred would-be teachers. It offered to subsidize the tuition fees for the courses necessary to eventually obtain a teaching license. I am sitting pretty, as the expression goes, on their waiting list. Still not really knowing why I wasn’t selected.

Three substantial pebbles in a week is a lot when they converge! All leading to a point which is not known to me, yet which starts to become clearer as clouds that are moving away in the sky.

Personally, I haven’t asked consciously for the sesame to open; yet it seems something is moving and there is significant progress at a level which may not be palpable to many.

Let’s stay tuned within as we continue putting the pieces of the divine puzzle together; perhaps a few of them will suddenly come together, in a way where we will finally see the big picture forming.

To reiterate my Ali Baba’s message, it is my deepest feeling that something of sheer magnitude is in the making.

“Open sesame” is a magical phrase in the story of “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves” in Antoine Galland’s version of One Thousand and One Nights. It opens the mouth of a cave in which forty thieves have hidden a treasure.

Why does Ali Baba say open sesame?

The Babylonians considered the sesame seed to have magical properties and some say that this is the reason why Ali Baba used the phrase “Open, sesame” to open the cave. Others say that the phrase mimics the way the sesame seed pod opens.

Where are we heading?

An honest question, dear Ones.

One we need to ask once in a while when we look at and assess the possibilities, as well as the pitfalls, our world presents.

Has it been tilting in the right direction since the beginning of the year?

If it hasn’t, what permutations are possible to create some viable alternatives?

As usual, there is MUCH MORE going on than the eye can perceive and we may be in for a surprise when the beauty of the new world suddenly erupts.

Let’s stay tuned, deep down within, and let’s make sure we are buckled!

It ought to rock at some point, don’t you think so?

A bag of spicy chips

Dear Ones,

How are you?

Something small, yet divinely noticeable, happened to me today.

It is one of those things that are not consequential, yet they may show that we are on alignment—or they may not.

I do a number of substitute teaching assignments in our local elementary school and I became friends with a bunch of 5th graders. I met some of them last July during summer school (they were 4th graders then) and we’ve had a good time ever since.

A good many of them are from Central America and they love a spicy chip called Takis. It’s a hard (corn?) chip that is rolled up like a cigarette and is really spicy, believe me.

I was meant to sub in that 5th grade class where most of my friends are last Friday. Thoughtfully, I bought a packet of Takis for the whole class.

Unexpectedly that morning, I was switched to a 6th grade class—an assignment that turned out to be incredibly boring. Proctoring tests.

The bag of Takis remained with me, unopened, tucked into my backpack.

Today, as we finished our Chinese New Year lunch, I felt the need to assuage my sweet tooth. The closest ice cream place we could think of, on our way home, was McDonalds. The price of their caramel sundae has gone through the roof since covid, yet I had a coupon!

As I turned around with my prize and moved to a sunny area in the restaurant, I discovered one of those 5th graders, Elizabeth, with her mother, younger sister and younger brother.

We sat at a table near them and chatted a little bit. And then I started talking to Elizabeth’s mother about her love for Takis… which starts apparently very early in the family!

As we left the restaurant, I suddenly remembered the bag of Takis, picked it up, turned around and made three kids very happy campers.

What could have been an unfortunate circumstance (!!) turned into a joyful encounter only five days later.

That is to say that, even if our plans do not work as we envision, the Divine may put us in the right place later on …. with a bag of spicy chips!

What is the nature of love?

Dear Ones,

How are you?

I came across an interesting discussion while watching the movie Interstellar last night. A long movie which took us three evenings to watch.

The discussion below, between two scientists, could indeed be summed up as,

“What is the nature of love?”

This would be a valuable reflection, wouldn’t it?

From the movie Interstellar, about halfway through it. A discussion between two astronauts.

Brand: And that makes me want to follow my heart. Maybe we’ve spent too long trying to understand this with theory.

Copper: You’re a scientist, Brand.

Brand: So listen to me. When I say that love is not something we invented, it’s observable, powerful. It has to mean something.

Cooper: Love has meaning, yes. Social utility, social bonding, child rearing…

Brand: We love people who have died. Where’s the social utility in that?

Cooper: None.

Brand: Maybe it means something more, something we can’t yet understand. Maybe it’s some evidence, some … artifact of a higher dimension that we can’t consciously perceive. I’m drawn across the universe to someone I haven’t seen in a decade, who I know is probably dead. Love is the one thing we’re capable of perceiving that transcends dimensions of time and space. Maybe we should trust that, even if we can’t understand it yet.

When memories fade, love remains!

Dear Ones,

I had a very sweet encounter today that made me reflect on the lasting power of Love.

I was subbing in a school that I know fairly well, supporting English learners. I didn’t have much to do during my last 4th grade assignment and decided to go outside. It was a warm day today in Virginia.

I sat on a bench in the playground and observed young children playing around on the monkey bars and other swings.

I was doing ….. nothing.

At some point, a young girl came toward me and gave me a big hug. I recognized her face yet didn’t know who she was. I asked about her grade (2nd) and her teacher’s name (Ms. Hunt). Everything fell into place and I could suddenly reminisce about the tremendous love we experienced in that classroom less than a month ago.

This young mind went on to play and came back later on with an inquisitive question.

“What are you doing here?”

I had to explain to her that I was skipping my last assignment of the day, searching for Love…. Unconsciously, that is.

What are we thankful for?

Dear Ones,

In this period preceding the closing of another year, what are we grateful about, as we look back?

Small things, big things, medium size blessings, we name it.

Or simply being at the right place at the right time.

Tomorrow Thursday, I will be working with 3rd graders in a school—called Providence—offering a Thanksgiving lunch.

Due to the number of students, this yummy event is split into two. A first serving on Wednesday for the younger ones, when I am not present. And a second one on Thursday, when I will be there.

How nice!

What are you grateful for?

Love, acceptance and resignation

Dear Ones,

In light of the recent political events in the United States, I feel called to share a portion of a teaching from Master Djwhal Kuhl, going back to April of 2011.

It addresses the concepts of love, acceptance and the difference between acceptance and resignation.

I found it particularly fit to the evolutionary times we are now experiencing.

And who knows what soon-to-knock-at-our-door 2025 will bring in its sack?

Another reason to polish our ‘acceptance skill’ as we near the end of another 365-day cycle.

“How would you rate the force of love operating in your life these days? I know that probably sounds like a loaded question, but just consider it for a moment. Clearly, love should help you move through your day, should it not? Love should support your center (or your core) as you take your place in a world that seems to lack any real equanimity. Further, love should bring you more self-acceptance. It should also offer a great capacity to accept all the things in the world you cannot change. As you engage in true acceptance, you will undoubtedly become softer – both toward yourself and toward others.

There is a definite difference between “acceptance” and “resignation” and since many folks confuse these two, an explanation is in order. Acceptance is a highly engaged state of mind and heart – which is just the opposite condition of resignation. Many well-intentioned spiritual aspirants confuse these two states of mind. They do so even though the energetic imprints of the two emotional conditions are radically divergent. Resignation is a state of reluctantly conforming to a situation while really wishing things could be another way. Acceptance, on the other hand, is simply a natural and open response to the things that happen, or to things as they are.

The first step to mastering acceptance turns out to be learning how to cultivate neutrality, or what my teachers called “impartiality.” One of the commonly held misperceptions about neutrality is that when one is neutral one simply doesn’t care about anything. That sounds a lot like resignation and not so much like acceptance, but it is the way many people think. If one truly doesn’t care about anything, then neither the events of the world, nor the events in the lives of other people seem to have any meaning, nor do they seem to require any attention. This is a bit on the nihilistic side, isn’t it? It might also be narcissistic, but it is certainly nihilistic. I want to emphasize that nihilism is not neutrality. I don’t care how someone tries to sell it. The neutrality or impartiality that I’m talking about here is a refined spiritual state of mind.

This mental state is learned over time with a lot of practice. It is a cultivated mental state in which a person cares very deeply about the world and all its beings. One does not deny this caring to any being on Earth. In fact, most people who learn to surround themselves with this refined mental state are amazed at how much their caring quotient deepens from prior states. The capacity to care is naturally deepened in a spiritually neutral state. The difference from prior states of caring lies completely in the absence of the ego-charge that may have been previously interpreted as caring. You might need to think about that a little bit.”

An event in the air!

Dear Ones,

On October 21 and October 23, I received a post from my friend CJ that was similar. The very same post two days apart, yet with different titles. Might there be a reason for that?

It mentioned the absolute necessity of what I sometimes call “a spiritual earthquake.”

Given what the world is experiencing right now in terms of tension and conflicts, and the amount of greed, lust and deception that floods our planet, it is difficult to envision a saner world without a complete reset.

Back to zero point. A fresh start, with a clean slate. The past wiped out.

I agree with CJ and, honestly, do not see any other possibility.

Do you?

A Grand Event, an Awakening has to occur

We are responsible for all we have created. C.J.

Heck If humanity is to evolve and survive, then a grand event, or Awakening, has to occur.  It has to be strong enough that any excuses from fear and Ego/Pride have no place to run, or any capacity to hide through deceptions all too common to us in daily life.

It will have to be fearful enough to shake us from our sleep, so we realize we are responsible for all we have created. It’s the only hope and the only power that can save the path we’ve chosen, until now.

It won’t stop until the wealthy, the famous and the royal realize that greed not only steals from people, but from a living Universe.  Things will never change and both sides grow closer in Wisdom and Awareness, until the poor and the ignorant stop blaming the rich and famous for their conditions in life and take responsibility for themselves.

Power is only real power when it is wrapped in Awareness. Power that grows through manipulation, control, and greed isn’t lasting. It has a seed of erosion and destruction within and it creates jealousy and anger from those who feel powerless. It takes from others and leaves nothing behind of value for anyone to appreciate.

Power becomes an enemy to existence and others. We are no longer seen as a flesh and blood creation, but a vile pestilence of existence, eating the insides of humanity. This isn’t the true purpose and intent of power.

Real power reveals the true nature of things and shows a unity of all Existence. It teaches us that one power exists beyond the greed of humanity. Only when we surrender to it and the guidance of our Heart and Feelings do we have a chance to avoid destruction to us and others.

We are given the freedom to choose whether or not we surrender to a greater wisdom, one that created everything, or … go our own way and see what happens.

It is the hope of the Heart of Existence that we’ll choose the way back Home but the Heart of Existence will always allow us to leave and return however long it might take us, even forever. Namaste
